Root Canal

Do you experience sharp tooth pain, especially when you bite down? You may be suffering from a root canal infection.

Dr. Susana Moncada can perform root canal therapy to address decay that has spread deep within the tooth.

Learn how the team at Windermere Dental Group in Orlando, FL, provides gentle, effective treatment to relieve pain and preserve smiles.

Understanding Root Canal Infections and Treatment

The pulp in the center of your tooth is comprised of blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue, which extends down to the roots of your tooth via root canals. If your tooth becomes cracked or develops a deep cavity, the pulp can come into contact with harmful bacteria and become infected.

During root canal treatment at our Orlando, FL, dental office, our dentist makes a small opening in the crown of the tooth, replaces the infected pulp with a rubber-like material, and preserves the exterior of the tooth with a restorative solution.

Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

Here's why patients turn to dentists or endodontists for this solution:

Alleviate Pain

A throbbing toothache or other dental pain can get in the way of your day-to-day life. A root canal can eliminate temperate sensitivity and pain caused by infected pulp.

Avoid Extraction

A root canal is designed to save your tooth, not replace it entirely. This treatment lets patients avoid tooth extraction, dental implants, and restorations while preserving the natural arrangement of surrounding teeth.

Prevent Further Infection

If left unaddressed, infections in the dental pulp will spread to other teeth and even other parts of the body. Root canal therapy promotes your long-term health.

Fortunately, you don't need to turn to a specialized endodontist's office to reap the benefits of root canal treatment; we can handle everything in-house.

A Closer Look at Root Canal Treatment in Orlando, FL

Here are the steps your dentist will take to treat your root canal infection:

We offer same-day emergency appointments for patients experiencing severe dental pain due to a root canal infection.
We offer same-day emergency appointments for patients experiencing severe dental pain due to a root canal infection.

Initial Consultation

Dr. Moncada will thoroughly examine you to determine if there is an infection and how severe it is. If root canal therapy is the best solution for you, you can move forward with treatment.

Local Anesthetic

You will receive a local anesthetic to reduce pain and discomfort during the procedure. Upon reaching the pulp chamber, your dentist may inject additional anesthetic into the nerve to prevent any further pain. Dr. Moncada can also administer nitrous oxide sedation to manage your anxiety.

Infected Tissue Removal

Your dentist will begin by removing the decayed tissue of your tooth. The pulp and nerve tissue from the tooth chamber are then removed. Your dentist will then disinfect the inner chambers of the tooth before filling it with gutta-percha, a rubber-like dental material.

Temporary Restoration

Dr. Moncada will seal the tooth with a temporary filling or crown and provide you with post-operative instructions to help ensure a healthy recovery.

Permanent Restoration Prep

At your next visit, Dr. Moncada will check for any complications or signs of infection. She will remove the temporary filling or crown and prepare your tooth for your permanent restoration.

Final Placement

Your dental crown may be fabricated in our office using CEREC® technology, or we may send your impressions to a partnering dental laboratory, depending on your unique situation.
