Brighten Your Smile with a Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment

If your teeth are stained, yellowed, or darker than you would prefer, a teeth whitening treatment can lighten your smile by several shades. Dr. Susana Moncada at Windermere Dental Group offers in-office and at-home teeth whitening options for patients living in the Orlando, FL, area. After evaluating your smile, she can recommend the best solution for your lifestyle, preferences, and level of dental discoloration. A beautifully bright smile can improve not only your confidence but your overall quality of life.

What Causes Dental Staining and Discoloration?

Although enamel is strong in nature, it is also porous. As a result, foods and beverages like coffee, black tea, red wine, soda, tomato sauce, and chocolate, can cause extrinsic, or external discoloration, which impacts the enamel. Certain lifestyle habits, such as smoking and tobacco use, as well as age and genetics, can also result in extrinsic discoloration.

In comparison, intrinsic dental stains affect the inner portion of the tooth known as dentin. This type of staining can result from overexposure to fluoride, tetracycline antibiotics, and dental trauma. Teeth whitening is often not effective when it comes to treating intrinsic stains. However, we offer both traditional porcelain veneers and LUMINEERS® as alternatives.

Who is a Candidate for Treatment?

We recommend teeth whitening for patients who feel self-conscious about extrinsic dental staining. To be eligible for treatment, you should have healthy teeth and gums and strong enamel. If you struggle with chronic dental sensitivity, you may wish to consider other forms of treatment. In addition, if you have tooth decay or gum disease, you must first undergo restorative or periodontal care before proceeding with teeth whitening.

Types of Teeth Whitening Options Available

At Windermere Dental Group, we offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening options to meet our patients' various needs.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

If you have an upcoming event and desire an immediate transformation,  in-office teeth whitening can dramatically whiten your smile in under one hour. This treatment uses a professional strength gel in combination with high-intensity light to deliver impeccable results.

If you have an upcoming event and desire an immediate transformation,  in-office teeth whitening can dramatically whiten your smile in under one hour.

During treatment, we can thoroughly clean and dry your teeth. We can then apply a special solution to the gums to prevent irritation. Next, Dr. Moncada can apply the whitening agent to each tooth, and it will remain in place for about 15 to 30 minutes. We can then apply a special light directly to the tooth surface, which will activate the solution. These steps can be repeated  as needed  to achieve the most desirable results.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

If time is not an issue and you are looking for a more affordable approach, we offer at-home teeth whitening. During your consultation, we can take impressions of your smile. These will be sent to an offsite lab, where your whitening trays will be custom-made. These are designed to fit securely over your top and bottom teeth. You should wear your whitening trays for 30 minutes each day or nightly for two weeks. This system allows you to brighten your smile at your convenience in the comfort of your own home.
